Promises Album Redesign
Album art
Spring 2023
My work is a typographic remake of the album cover for “Promises,” by Floating Points, Pharaoh Sanders, and the London Symphony Orchestra. When making the new album cover, I wanted to try and convey the feeling of the music, and go in a more literal direction of a space theme than the original. The original album cover is effective, however, I wanted to go with a more retro feel. The font that I chose to help me create this feeling was ‘Righteous’ by Brian Bonislawsky, and this font helped to convey the look I was going for and helped make my work come to life.
The concept I created for my album cover was going for the feel of a space sticker that might be on a rocketship toy or video game from the ‘80s. I wanted to capture that retro feeling while also making it modern, with some of the effects that were placed over the work. I think that this would connect with my audience because the feeling of the ‘80s evokes a feeling of nostalgia in people my age for a time that we don’t even know anything about. It is a specific feeling, and those who get it will understand it and want to pick it up.
